Get a Taste of Olivia Rodrigo’s Album SOUR

Olivia Rodrigo released her new song, “good 4 u,” a punk rock break-up anthem. The music video has phenomenal production value and expresses teenage heartbreak.Following Olivia Rodrigo’s success with her hit song “Drivers License,” the Disney star’s debut album, SOUR, was released on May 20. The album contains 11 tracks with 8 new songs released.

The song is quite different from Olivia Rodrigo’s previous songs about heartbreak as both “Deja Vu” and ‘‘Drivers License’’ all have a solemn tone to their melody. It seems that the star has taken a different path with her new song, as it contains heavy bass and electric guitars strumming and drums.

“Good 4 u” is beautifully written due to its authenticity of a true heartache and rage. As the song goes, “I guess that therapist I found for you, she really helped/Now you can be a better man for your brand new girl.” Although the lyrics may seem harsh, the song represents an ex moving on too soon after a break up.

Similarly, the album’s first track, “Brutal,” describes the frustration of being a teenager in the 21st century and how the media romanticizes youth. As the songs goess, “If someone tells me one more time

“Enjoy your youth,” I’m gonna cry.” The song describes the essence of being a teenager and individual insecurities, it is the type of song that every single high school student can relate to.

Olivia Rodrigo is an incredible song writer especially when it comes to writing ballads. Songs such as “hope ur ok” and “happier” are some of the best tracks on the album, and they will make you want to ball your eyes out.  Both songs reminisce on past platonic and romantic relationships which makes her album extremely nostalgic.

The Disney star’s debut album SOUR is best described as an emotional rollercoaster, it is one of the best debut albums out there.
