The varsity girls’ volleyball team aimed high this season with 20 wins overall. They were 5th in the Palomar league and 69th in California for Division 1.

This team wanted to come back stronger than ever since they did not have a season last year due to covid.

“The fact that we beat San Marcos in one set when they hadn’t lost a single set in league just added to the excitement” senior Katie Carpenter described the night of her emotional senior night. With the final score being 3-1 on October 14th was an accomplishment in itself to win a set against an undefeated team.

She says she loves the coaching staff because they make an effort to have personal relationships with individual athletes, creating an uplifting environment for everyone.

Senior Casey Stephens, one of two returning varsity players, explained the bond among all the girls on this team.

“The team is super close and includes some of my best friends that I will remember forever and I was able to spend my senior night with so many amazing people,” Stephens says.

This coachable group of high schoolers were able to work together and have a smooth season.

On October 5th, Poway played Rancho Bernardo at home. Senior Bella Bevilacqua says that “the game against Rancho Bernardo was one to remember because of how hype both of the student sections were, it was even better because we took home the W,” The score ended up being 3-2.

Bevilacqua said she loves how close everyone on the team has gotten and she’s so happy she was able to spend her last season playing with them.
