Baseball has had a very solid season, despite losing to Rancho Bernardo for the league tournament, they were the 6th seed for open division CIF and advanced to play semi- finals yesterday. If they won they would proceed to the championship game against Torry Pines tomorrow, June 2.

The Titans would need to have beat Eastlake yesterday. In early rounds the Titans managed to beat Eastlake 3-1 and Cathedral Catholic 8-3, and then went on to lose to Eastlake 3-8 May 29. Shortstop senior Dayton Dooney and pitcher junior Nick Salafia, lead the team to a 26 win and seven loss season. Of course winning the league tournament would have been icing on the cake, but with this high of a winning percentage, they have nothing but confidence heading into CIF.

“We’ve had a very good season, and I believe we have put in the necessary work to compete for the CIF championship,” senior Dayton Dooney said.

So far the team has done very well in CIF, with two wins against Eastlake and Cathedral and one loss against Eastlake. The key to the team’s success this season was their ability to ride the confidence from their good performances and their ability to learn from their mistakes and leave them behind.

“Our ability to keep the atmosphere of the team positive at all times, even after losses, is one of the main reasons we were able to have such a consistently good season. We never found ourselves giving up, and that was a major key to success this season,” junior Nick Salafia said.
CIF is the ultimate test to see how prepared the team really is. They know after a season like they had, expectations are going to be high, and with this team being no strangers to championships they are going to need to play their best ball to cap off the season right.
